I dream of Puerto Rico around once a week since our trip to Luquillo and San Juan. Island time agreed with me, and the trip felt like truly getting away, which is really rare with me.

When planning, I asked around to friends who had traveled to Puerto Rico, and my friend Megan sent me the most amazing roundup of places to visit. La Estacion was one of the restaurants on the list, and once we read about it, we knew we had to make it part of our itinerary. On our outdoor adventure day, between our sailing trip to Icacos and our boat trip to the bioluminescent bay, we made sure we had time to visit La Estacion, which was conveniently close to both. It turned out to be the perfect plan , giving us just a little time after sailing to drive around and some time after dinner to grab a beer and walk  on the beach.

As the name alludes to, La Estacion is on the site of an old gas station, which definitely gives for an interesting atmosphere. The cool space is sought-after. Definitely get a reservation if you can!

They’re big on local ingredients, beautiful outdoor space, strong and yummy cocktails and a good time.

It was hot when we arrived for dinner, and while frozen drinks aren’t my normal choice, I enjoyed a piña colada or two while in Puerto Rico! Sipping on this slushy treat while smelling the smoky air and feeling the heat was just amazing. I love being hot.

In addition to putting a lot of time and care into food and beverage, La Estacion also has nice little touches throughout, including lots of beautiful flowers and accents, and great service.

flowers Since I was on vacation, I decided to go with the special grilled stuffed whole lobster, sweet potato fries, and coleslaw. How good does that look?!

I ate most of it and wanted to roll out of the restaurant. Buttery lobster with tropical flavors of the salsa made it just out of this world.

My husband went for the BBQ side of things with ribs and chicken and mac and cheese, also amazing. I am always glad that we love to share; here it allowed us to taste a little bit of both the seafood and BBQ food La Estacions is known for.

If you are headed to the Fajardo/Luquillo area in Puerto Rico, La Estacion is really a must-visit. From warm welcomes to delicious, satisfying cuisine, they have it all. It’s really quite the experience! We’re hoping to visit again next winter.

Until then, we’ll hope for summer weather in New England and dream of Puerto Rico sunsets. . . .

Summer is just around the corner, although it really doesn’t feel like it here in Boston! I really have to say that I love that it was 90 degrees for the Boston Marathon, and now in May I am using my electric blanket and tempted to turn the heat on. That all worked out well.

Eversave Boston is going to be making summer a bit more delicious for a couple of lucky members. They are giving away two BBQ bashes, either from Dickey’s Barbecue Pit or, if the winner does not live near a Dickey’s, $250 to Omaha Steaks.

Just click on the below image for details and to enter to get your Memorial Day BBQ started.

Since moving out of the area years and years ago, I rarely ever head back to my old post-college neighborhood of Allston. This past Wednesday, however, a client I have been working on Public Relations and Social Media with, Good Parent, Inc. held an event at the Allston-Honan branch of the Boston Public Library. If you have kids or know someone with kids, definitely check out the Good Parent site; I love their books, and I love working with them.

After the event, I wandered in the warm summer evening air, with the sun slowly starting to set, down Harvard Ave in Allston, past all of my old stomping grounds which happen to be gone, for the most part. I knew that there was some sort of BBQ place in Allston, so I gave my husband a rough location to meet me at, and very soon I found Soulfire.

One whiff of the spicy smells coming from the restaurant was all I needed. I took a seat at the bar while I waited for my husband and took in the funky Soulfire vibe.

Soulfire BBQ

The place was completely packed and a little noisy, but it was just what I wanted that night. I grabbed a cold Brooklyn Lager and sipped away as I read and reread the menu, which is packed with BBQ goodness, especially sides, sauces, and appetizers. Those are the things I care about most.

Once the hubby arrived, we decided to share a bunch of items including pulled chicken on Texas toast, cole slaw, BBQ beans, corn bread, pickles, and the Spaghetti Western, which just happens to be creamy mac and cheese mixed with BBQ chili, topped with corn flakes. We couldn’t say no.

The restaurant also offers six packs of sauce at each setting, so I got to try their sauces in abundance. I am definitely a sauce girl, and while the signature Soulfire sauce was good, I went back time and again for the Fiery sauce. We devoured the tender, flavorful chicken on soft white bread, perfect for soaking up sauce. The cole slaw was crunchy, fresh, not overdressed, and a great addition to the spicy sauces. But the Spaghetti Western, as we imagined, filled us up and stole our hearts. Chunks of smoky BBQ meat were encased in the cheesy mac. I dipped my mac and chili in even more sauce, and my was it heavenly.

We left full, and I was happy that we had a long walk back to the car. It was the perfect way to end the evening. I had been craving BBQ, and Soulfire definitely delivered. We will be back!
