We’ve loved life in Dorchester for 11 years now, and while we always had a few restaurant favorites, the restaurant scene in the past year has grown like crazy. The Industry on Adams in bustling Adams Village is our new obsession. . . since they opened about a month ago we have been in five times!

Why do we love it?

First of all, it’s beautifully appointed; it definitely has an old Boston look and feel while also being chic and modern. It feels like it’s always been there.

Second, the staff is great. Everyone is super friendly and engaging, no matter how busy they are, and we like going in just to chat with them.

And then there are the cocktails. They have an extensive selection of whiskeys, in addition to all sorts of other spirits, wines, and beers, and they’re always experimenting with new cocktails. The above grapefruit and gin with a salt simple syrup was simply amazing.

Every meal we have had at The Industry has been top notch, from their super fresh oysters, which are always the perfect size for me to their salads. I love when a menu has a number of salads on it to choose from, especially when they aren’t just boring old lettuce. We enjoyed the burratta and tomato on our first visit, and this warm mushroom and asparagus salad was to-die-for.

Look at that egg! This plate of truffle-y goodness made for the perfect dinner on a night where it was too hot to cook at home!

   steak frites On the same night, we also shared steak frites perfection and a heavenly chocolate soufflé because, despite being super full from dinner, we had to try their desserts! 

The soufflé was so light on the outside and molten inside, the perfect chocolate-y treat for us to share, and one I am still dreaming about.

The burger at The Industry comes with bourbon and bacon jam, which tells you all you need to know. This jam is phenomenal, and the burger is equally delicious.

When a new restaurant opens in the neighborhood, my first question is always if they are going to do brunch, and The Industry, though new, has already started serving brunch. We were some of the first brunch customers!

It was an Irish breakfast for him. . . if there’s an Irish breakfast on the menu he will have to have it!

I went with the bacon wrapped Benedict because how could you not? Jalapeño Cornbread, BBQ Hollandaise, Pickled Red Onion, Crispy Onion . . . amazing! This was one decadent brunch, and my only wish was that I could order it in half size. Together we couldn’t finish it!

We can walk to The Industry from our house, which is a good thing, as we need to burn off some of the stellar and indulgent meals we’ll be enjoying there. If you haven’t been to Dorchester recently, now’s the time to visit!

We are embracing winter this year! If you’ve been reading/following me on social media, you might know that summer is far and away my favorite time of year, and I have a really hard time dealing with dark and cold.

Last winter and recently I have read articles on the Danish concept of hygge, the idea of coziness and a positive state of mind and mental well being. Hygge is about the feelings that come from creating a cozy space and positivity, and I am trying my best to keep this concept in mind.

After a very busy work week, we had a quiet Friday night in by the fire. Friday happened to be Nollaig na mBan, or Women’s Christmas in Irish. This is celebrated as a day for women, who tend to do much of the Christmas shopping and cooking, to relax. And relax I did! My husband waited on me with our favorite Indian takeout as I sat with sparkling wine by the fire. We watched The Missing (so good!) and went to bed early.

With hours of cozy sleep under our belts, Saturday morning was full of energy, and we walked to our favorite Irish bakery, Greenhills Bakery in Adams Village for giant cups of tea and a shared chocolate croissant. Hearing Irish spoken in Boston is always a delight, and we soaked up the homey atmosphere before walking a bit more in the snow and deciding a proper brunch at Lucy’s, also in Adams Village, was necessary!

The food at Lucy’s is delicious, and with snow falling outside, there was such  cozy vibe inside. We lingered over our meals, not checking phones, just talking and watching the snow fall before venturing out for our beautiful winter wonderland walk home.

  After another quiet night in, we decided that Sunday should be for hiking at World’s End. We should have brought our snowshoes, but instead laughed and trudged through the drifts to get to high points, where we enjoyed amazing coastal views. It was SO fun.

Hiking always works up an appetite, and especially when it’s snow hiking, so we headed to nearby Hingham Shipyard to try Trident Galley & Raw Bar. They had live music, an incredible brunch menu, and excellent service.

Trying to be a little healthy, we shared a beet salad and the short rib hash, which was a spot-on recommendation. It was amazing.

I love splitting plates like this; we were full but didn’t feel awful, and we got a taste of a couple of great dishes. The live music was a nice touch as well. Covers of old favorites, not-too-loud, and uplifting, it was a lovely addition to brunch.

After even MORE outdoor wandering at the Shipyard, we decided we needed a little bit more time outside, and stopped at the Milton Yacht Club on the way home to capture the setting sun and beautiful late afternoon winter light.

I thawed out with a hot Epsom salt bath before pouring a glass of Navarra wine and whipping up Chicken, Bacon, and Potato Soup (with kale).

It was the perfect weekend. I realize I can either hate this time of year or spend more time being grateful for all I have to get through it – food, shelter, warmth, love. I think if I can keep that focus, I can make it to spring!

My “A Day in Dorchester” post is long overdue for an update! Years have passed, and we’ve moved to a new neighborhood, not to mention, Dorchester has grown as a dining and drinking destination in major ways over the past years. It’s at the point where we don’t leave Dorchester all that often as we have everything we need right here!

Lately, we have been going on a Friday night date that starts with a pint of Guinness at the delightfully Irish old school Eire Pub. Last week, we followed that with dinner at the newly opened Landmark Public House across the street.

Landmark Public House took over the space occupied by Gerard’s, a local favorite and a great spot for breakfast.

One of the first things we noticed inside were all of the odes to the neighborhood and to Boston on the walls and menu. Dorchester has such a neighborhood feel, especially in areas like Adams Village, and I am so glad they honored that when creating this space. It was filled with families, dates, people out after work. In uncertain times in the world, I am grateful for this little place we call home.

While we waited for our table, I ordered a delicious Gerard’s Old Fashioned, and we took in the cozy space and cheerful vibe of the restaurant. We quickly decided it would be a place we would want to spend more time, especially this winter when getting out will save our sanity.

Not long after we ordered drinks, we were taken to our table by one of the very friendly staff members.

We had a hard time deciding on what to order as we were interested in just about everything, but once our decisions were made and shared with our lovely server, we were brought homemade chips and onion dip to snack on while we waited.

They certainly know the way to my heart! I am not one to go for a bread basket, but put chips and dip and a cocktail in front of me, and I don’t even need dinner. The pairing of the snack and Old Fashioned was like the perfect little cocktail party.

Because I am *trying* to be good (and because in the weeks after the Chicago Marathon I ate junk and drank way too much beer) I started with the Kale Salad with  roasted beets, quinoa, goat cheese, and citrus vinaigrette. Sometimes I find raw kale really tough, but the citrus dressing definitely softened it in this salad and added tons of flavor. It was a hefty portion, and with the goat cheese and quinoa could have been a meal in itself for me.

And since I am not quite that healthy, I had to go for the Short Rib Grilled Cheese, the perfect fall or winter comfort food, and a sandwich I have been dreaming about since. Tender short rib and buttery sourdough. . . and pickles and fries. . . it really doesn’t get much better. I will dream about this sandwich on long runs going forward.

We felt so comfy and relaxed that we lingered over another cocktail before heading home again. I am so excited to have yet another great Dorchester restaurant and that it seems to be very crowded from the get-go. Landmark Public House, welcome to the neighborhood!
